The highly anticipated Vivo X FOLD has finally been released, and we are one of the first in North America to have it. If you're interesting in getting it, you can find it here.
The X Fold was first previewed by Vivo at the end of March and has now been formally released in China, with all the features you'd expect from a flagship smartphone but in a folding form factor. Vivo's X Fold might be the folding smartphone we've been waiting for, thanks to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 engine, 120Hz AMOLED panels on the inside and out, a 37-minute charge time, and a quad-camera system with ZEISS certified lenses. Unfortunately, it appears that it will only be available in China for the time being, with no intentions to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 in other regions.
The X Fold's internal AMOLED display extends to 8.03 inches and boasts LTPO technology and a 120Hz refresh rate, with a 6.53-inch E5 AMOLED cover display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Both panels, unusually, have an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which should make for a pleasant experience. The phone's inside panel is made of ultra-thin glass (UTG), which Vivo claims can withstand up to 300,000 folds and unfolds, or almost 10 years if folded and unfolded 80 times each day. Vivo also claims that it has a crease-free design, but we'll have to test it out for ourselves.
Other notable features include 66W fast charging, which charges the 4,600mAh battery from 0 to 50% in 17 minutes, and 50W wireless fast charging, which provides a 10% charge in 5 minutes and a full charge in 53 minutes.
The X Fold's camera system is identical to that of the X70 Pro Plus, with a 50MP primary sensor (Samsung GN5), a 48MP ultra-wide lens with 114° FoV, a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom (IMX663), and an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. There's also a 16MP selfie camera hidden behind a punch-hole cutout on both the internal and exterior screens, so you can capture selfies in a variety of ways.
